Carribbean Master Bedroom
Of all my bedroom projects, this is the most dramatic change I’ve ever witnessed. And I have to admit the most fun project I’ve ever done. Most of that fun came from the wonderful homeowners of this downtown historical home in Fisher Park. My clients, who have now become good friends of mine, put their total trust in my talents and expertise, allowing me to completely transform their frumpy master bedroom into a stunning Carribean delight.
My jet-setting clients take an extended trip to the Bahamas each year and wanted to convey the same feeling of “island-time” into their bedroom. The inspiration for the color palette started with the homeowner’s luscious pink-raspberry throw and a dreamy aquamarine comforter.
These colors, along with the Homeower’s collection of Bahamian prints made my search for the perfect companions challenging but oh, so much fun.
After searching through hundreds of fabrics, I spotted this fascinating botanical fabric. The pattern was perfect, the colors were perfect, the scale was perfect. And the price was perfect. Can you see me grinning from ear to ear?
From this perfect botanical print, I custom designed a headboard making sure the curves of the headboard had just enough movement, that the height of the headboard was proportionate to the space and that the pattern of the fabric was perfectly aligned to the overall design. I also made sure the foot rail and side rails got the same attention. Whew, that’s a lot of detail for one lil’ ‘ole queen bed. I must thank Michael at Murphy’s Upholstery for fabricating, delivering and setting up the bed for me. Need something upholstered? Gotta call Mike.
So before we get too far into all the furnishing details, I gotta talk floor plan. Talk about an awkward space. There is a window or door on every. wall. of. this. bedroom.
What in the world do you do with a problem like that? I love a challenge so here’s my creative solution. I completely hid Wall 1 with a grouping of fabric panels, corner to corner and floor to ceiling. I designed a gorgeous backdrop of custom-made cream linen pinch-pleat drapes that perfectly balanced the botanical print headboard. Ready to see it? Here’s the BEFORE picture one more time.
Ta-da!
Yes, I agree…stunning!! Forgive me, but like a proud momma watching her baby take the first steps, I truly am beaming with this one.
The perfect colors in the perfect botanical print made for the perfect jumping off color for the walls; Sherwin Williams 6494, Lakeshore. (I’m done saying perfect now.) I flanked the bed with two Jayne Accent Chests that have vintage mirrored fronts and sides. These chests provide great storage for clothes, lingerie and personal affects. The glass stem of these Campania Lamps are reminiscent of ocean waves.
A mix of custom pillows and a ready-made matelassé finish off the luxurious yet calming look of the bedding.
A petite, yet stately cream leather chair was positioned by the window to provide a place to read or relax. The room is refined with delicate accessories previously owned by the client.
The clients relish their bedroom. I’m told that each time they enter this room, they reminisce about their favorite vacation spot. It’s such a pleasure creating a space that brings such tranquility and happiness.
Warmly
